our history

In 1951, the ranch house at Brusally Arabian Horse Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona was built by Ed and Ruth Tweed. The ranch was named for their children Bruce and Sally. It was the site of the first all-Arabian horse show in the U.S. In the late 1990's, the main ranch house was reconfigured and became the site of the Arizona Transplant House, a small not-for-profit organization with a vision to support the long recovery of organ transplant patients.

1995

Sally Tweed Groom donated the Arabian Ranch house to Mayo Clinic Scottsdale.

1998-1999

After renovations, Arizona Transplant House opens its doors to its first patients and caregivers in 1999.

2003

Arizona Transplant House receives 501(c)(3) non-profit status.

2006

As the Foundation outgrows its ranch house beginnings, the vision for the Village at Mayo Clinic is formed. The Village brings together Help In Healing Home Foundation, ACS-Hope Lodge and Mayo Clinic.

2008

The first guest casita is built, housing 6 patients and 6 caregivers, approximately 5,000 sq. ft and beautifully appointed.

2014

The Board of the Foundation changes the name to Help In Healing Home. The mission expanded to accommodate a larger variety of transplant patients, including those receiving stem cell and bone marrow. This change also opened our lodging to cancer patients and other kinds of surgical patients.

2016

Help In Healing Home reaches its current capacity with 24 rooms, accommodating 24 patients and their 24 caregivers. Each casita features a south-facing veranda so guests may take in the beautiful Sonoran desert scenery.

2016

The future holds three more guest casitas, each a two-story vs. current single-story buildings. Once completed, HIHH will have capacity for 60 patients and their 60 caregivers.
